Tattoo Latino Mike Tyson! Argentine Heavyweight Champion Gonzalo Omar Basile

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Newly crowned South American Heavyweight champion Gonzalo Omar ‘El Paton’,Basile, of Buenos Aires, Argentina, a veteran of 86 professional bouts at age 45, is truly the king of the ‘B’ heavyweight fighters. His tattooed face makes him truly the Latino version of Iron Mike Tyson. He has won decisions at 10 and 12 rounds 12 times, as has knocked out 35 opponents in his 74-12 record. Since turned pro in 2003, he has only been stopped eight times. Although his record includes one No Contest and several wins by disqualification, Basile has never fought to a draw.

A former World Boxing Council Latino, World Boxing Organization Latino, and World Boxing Council Mundo Hispano regional heavyweight champion, Basile has never beaten an ‘A’ caliber heavyweight fighter, having been knocked out in the first Robert by Robert Helenius, Alexander Dimitrenko, Cesar Gustavo Acevedo, and Marcelo Nasimiento, and knocked in the fourth round by Artur Szpika. Evenif he will never be a world champion, Basile has an education in the boxing world of experience.

After getting knocked out in the second round of his professional debut, Basile won 26 fights in a row, and 31 or his next 32 bouts. Current only a six bout win streak at age 45, Basile has won 11 of his last 12 bouts, excepting the Helenius loss. Perhaps the old South American champion, on April 20, 2019, Basile stopped 13-6 Julio Enrique Cuellar Cabrera in his native Argentina to win the South American title for the first time, meaning he will have to defend it.

Basile is no Argentine forever legend like the late Carlos Monzon or Oscar Bonavena. However, his tattooed face, perhaps the most memorable heavyweight tattooed face since Iron Mike Tyson, means ‘El Paton’, the Spanish Mike Tyson, is still in the fight game. Ina legal sense, anybody can tattoo their face to get attention in the sports world or anywhere else. Whther or nto the common man wants to imitate Basile and Tyson and do the samething to his face remains doubtful, but the world is a free country. To each his own. Basile, like Mike Tyson, marches to the beat of his own drum, and does his own thing, in both the mirror and the ring.
